A Family Story Rooted in Hospitality

Cleary's Pub

The Beginning

Cleary’s Pub is more than a restaurant. It’s a family story, a downtown gathering place, and a business built on tradition, warmth, and community.

The Cleary story began on St. Patrick’s Day in 1957, when Irish immigrants Frank Cleary and Mary O’Shea met in Detroit, Michigan. They married in 1958 and raised six children, building a family shaped by strong values and deep community roots.

In 1991, siblings Joan Henry, Meg Boomer, and Patrick Cleary opened Cleary’s Pub in historic downtown Chelsea. Their goal was simple: create a place where people could enjoy quality food, great drinks, friendly service, and a fun atmosphere that felt welcoming from the moment they walked in.

Over the years, Cleary’s has become known for its extensive menu, handcrafted drinks, locally sourced specials, and energetic pub environment. With live music on weekends and a team that loves serving the community, Cleary’s continues to be a favorite destination for guests looking for a memorable meal and a relaxed, inviting experience.
